Kipp and his Dad

Hello, my name is  Kipp.  My parents and other family members and friends often affectionately call me Kipper.  I want to tell you a

little bit about myself.  First of all, I am a dog. My dad says that I’m the most beautiful dog that ever lived, but isn’t that what dads always say about their children?

You probably know that there are many kinds of dogs; I am a black German shepherd. Let me tell you about my early life. I am now nearly 17 months old, and was born on September 1, 2010.  My dog dad is from the Czech Republic and my dog mom is from the United States.  Somehow, they got together and my mom had 2 boys. After about 6 weeks under the loving care of my dog mom, my brother and I went to a foster home and could not have been happier there. Our parents were Mort and Donna, and our uncle and aunt were Ed and Marilyn.  Mort and Donna named my brother Duke, and Ed and Marylin named me Kipp. Uncle Ed said that was the name of his father’s favorite dog, and so he gave me that name.

Mort and Donna have this fantastic ranch with lots of horses and even a big buffalo. Duke and I were allowed to run free, and our dog lives were everything we could ever hope for.  I was very happy.  One day, a gray-haired, slightly overweight man and a beautiful, thin woman came to the ranch. I don’t know exactly what they said to Mort, Donna, Ed and Marilyn but after one month, this couple came to pick me up and I have been with them ever since.  I should tell you that I spent most of my time at the ranch with Uncle Ed and Marilyn. Uncle Ed taught me a lot about how to behave and how to follow orders. He taught me how to sit, lie down, fetch hidden objects and to walk on his left side when he told me to do so. When uncle Ed said, “Heel,” I knew exactly what to do. I will never forget the love and affection I received from these four great people.

I’m getting really tired tonight. My dad (the gray-haired, slightly overweight one) is also getting tired because he rode 50 miles on his bicycle today, the first day of a special journey of which I am a major participant. I am tired of dictating to my dad and he is tired of typing. I will tell you much more about my life and how I happen to be on this journey. But tonight, I am all done in and I just want to get some sleep. I overheard my dad say that he and I will take our first 15-mile walk tomorrow. I can’t wait. I love to walk, run around, chase and fetch balls and walk on the treadmill.  More about all that on another day.  But, one more thing: I am very proud to be an American!

Thanks to all my dog and people friends who read my blog and for making donations as I walk across America with Mom and Dad and Kelly and Tyler. You are the best friends a dog could ever have. Love, Kipper

Dear Kipp, My Mom read your blog to me, too, and I decided if that other Bella can be your friend, so can I!! I’m a yellow lab and we are actually neighbors! I sure wish I could get out and romp like you are doing! I’ll be thinking about you every day. And I want to pledge TWO pennies a mile for your trip!! Please write more often so that I don’t forget about you. Will I recognize you when you come back home? Love, Bella S.

Dear Kipp, My mom read your blog to me and I am excited to learn more about your journey and adventures. My name is Bella and I am a little dog but big in the verbal dimension. I will be following along and will add my two cents from time to time. My mom and dad said I could pledge a penny a mile for your journey. I hope that other dogs pledge too. Love, Bella

Verbal indeed, but apparently color blind. Kipp, your Dad’s hair is snow white!

    Kipp —

You are incredibly verbal! I’m so happy that you made it to your permanent home after your loving first homes. I know your mom and dad love you so much and so do your sisters!
