On Wednesday, March 21st, with many Lanier High School students in attendance, 25 immigrants became United States citizens. With the Honorable Lee Yeakel, United States District Judge, presiding, the Ceremony included remarks by Mario Ortiz, District Director for the United States Citizen and Immigration Services, Gerda Weissman Klein and John Eckstein. The students, new citizens and guests were attentive and eager to celebrate this very important occasion.
After the event, Claudia Kramer Santamaria, Supervisor of Parent Programs for the Austin Independent School District, stated, “I was so honored to be in the audience. AISD is a better place after today’s ceremony.”
